Let\u2019s learn the usage of these two particles now!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Exceptional <\/strong><strong>\u304b<\/strong><strong> (ka)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Most of Japanese sentences can be turned into questions by simply adding the particle \u304b (ka) at the end of the sentence. In this case, the particle \u304b (ka) is equivalent to a question mark (?). Read: <a href=\"http:\/\/lingo-apps.com\/or-conjunction-japanese\/\">\u304b (ka) as the conjunction OR<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For example, the following statement is a positive sentence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u5916\u306f\u6691\u3044\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Soto wa atsui desu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It is hot outside.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The above positive statement will turn into a question with the additional \u304b (ka) at the end of the sentence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u5916\u306f\u6691\u3044\u3067\u3059<strong>\u304b\uff1f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Soto wa atsui desu <strong>ka?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Is it hot outside<strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another example.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u30ad\u30e0\u3055\u3093\u306f\u97d3\u56fd\u4eba\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Kimu-san wa kankokujin desu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Mr. Kim is a Korean.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u30ad\u30e0\u3055\u3093\u306f\u97d3\u56fd\u4eba\u3067\u3059<strong>\u304b\uff1f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Kimu-san wa kankokujin desu <strong>ka?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Is Mr. Kim a Korean<strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few things to take note:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Just like most of the languages, the questions end with a rising intonation at the word \u304b (ka).<\/li>\n<li>In formal Japanese, questions can end in the Japanese full stop (\u3002).<\/li>\n<li>You do not need to change the word order, which is a basic asking question rule in English. Notice the English \u2018is\u2019 and \u2018it\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Confirmation <\/strong><strong>\u306d<\/strong><strong> (ne)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>\u306d (ne) is a common ending particle in Japanese sentence. It is commonly used to ask for confirmation \u2013 just as in <em>n\u2019est-ce pas<\/em> [French] or <em>isn\u2019t it<\/em> [English]. Examples:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u3044\u3044\u5929\u6c17\u3067\u3059<strong>\u306d\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">ii tenki desu <strong>ne.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It is a nice weather, <strong>isn\u2019t it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u6708\u304c\u7dba\u9e97\u3067\u3059<strong>\u306d\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Tsuki ga kirei desu <strong>ne.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The moon is beautiful, <strong>isn\u2019t it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The appropriate response would be:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u305d\u3046\u3067\u3059<strong>\u306d\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">S\u014d desu <strong>ne.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">That\u2019s right, <strong>(isn\u2019t it?)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s learn Japanese today!
