I have both good news and bad news for the verb to be<\/em> in Chinese. Which one do you want to hear first?<\/p>\n

Well. I\u2019ll start with the good one first. As stated in the previous post<\/a>, there is no verb to be conjugation in Chinese. \u662f (sh\u00ec), which has the closest meaning to the verb to be<\/em> in English, fits well with all personal pronouns<\/a> and all tenses.<\/p>\n

But, wait! Let\u2019s continue hearing the bad news. You cannot only using \u662f (sh\u00ec) to express the verb\u00a0to be <\/em>in Chinese. So, keep scrolling down this post. You will be introduced with other concepts to express to be <\/em>in Chinese in a simple way here.<\/p>\n

\u662f<\/strong> (sh<\/strong>\u00ec<\/strong>)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Basically, \u662f (sh\u00ec) is used to link two nouns (or pronouns). You can use this magic word \u662f (sh\u00ec) to introduce who you are \u2013 your nationality, profession, or anything, as long as it belongs to the noun group.<\/p>\n

Structure: Noun + \u662f + Noun<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

If you have checked the Adjectives in Chinese<\/a> post, you must have probably known that it is possible to use \u662f (sh\u00ec) together with the particle \u7684 (de)<\/a> to emphasize an adjectival fact.<\/p>\n

Unlike the verb to be <\/em>that works well for connecting noun and adjective in English, Chinese is different. Instead, we use degree adverbs<\/a>, such as \u5f88 (h\u011bn), to link them.<\/p>\n

Structure: Noun + \u5f88 + Adjective<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In general, \u5728 (z\u00e0i) means the preposition in, on,<\/em> or at. <\/em>Besides, \u5728 (z\u00e0i) can be also used to indicate someone\/something is\/are<\/strong> at somewhere.<\/em><\/p>\n

Structure: Noun + \u5728<\/strong> + Location (Adverb of Place)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In addition, \u5728 (z\u00e0i) can also use to express a continuous action<\/strong> \u2013 an action which is happening at the time of speaking.<\/p>\n
