The Difference between Complete vs Finish

Complete and Finish, they are the same right? Think about it!

The race is completed vs The race is finished

The game is completed vs The game is finished

The lesson is completed vs The lesson is finished

There is no difference at all! Both of them also mean conclude and ended. Whether using “complete” or “finish”, the meaning look like the same.

But is that true?

Believe it or not, there is huge difference between them!

In a linguistic conference, held in London, England, in 2012, Samsunder Balgobin, one of the best linguists, was asked by the audience that is there a difference between “complete” and “finish”?

“Yes, there is a huge difference between two of them,

When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETED;

When you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED;

When the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!”

WOW! Huge difference! Samsunder Balgobin even received a five-minute standing ovation for his amazing answer.

But how the two words that we all thought to have the same meaning give completely different meaning to the sentence. The secret behind is CONTEXT.
